WHAT IS THE COUNTESS MARESCOTTI AWARD PROGRAM?
The Countess Marescotti Award for Distinguished African Collegiate Illustrators is an illustration competition that provides awardees with two years of professional representation with Milan Illustrations Agency (MIA). Shefalika Marescotti, a veteran of the European illustration industry with a career spanning 22 years, is offering the most talented students at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial & Fine Arts at Makerere University the opportunity to launch illustration careers within the global publishing, advertising and animation industries.
WHY SHOULD YOU COMPETE?
Platinum Award winners receive an in-depth review of their illustration work by Mary Cartwright, the internationally renowned Art Director of Usborne Publishing. Usborne is a global leader in children´s book publishing and won the Children´s Publisher of the Year award at the 2020 British Book Awards.
Platinum Award winners of the Distinguished Illustrator award category will receive a two year contract for representation by Milan Illustrations Agency
Platinum Award winners receive an individual portfolio page on the Milan Illustrations Agency website.
Platinum Award, Gold Award, Silver Award and Honorary Mention Award winners will have their work is showcased to the world´s leading publishers, animators and ad agencies via MIA´s email and social media marketing campaigns
Platinum Award, Gold Award, Silver Award and Honorary Mention Award winners will have their and their work are featured in a global press release. You will be featured alongside industry leaders and innovators in publishing and illustration.
Platinum Award, Gold Award, Silver Award and Honorary Mention Award winners may be featured at the 2022 Bologna Book Fair, the premier annual meeting for the international children's literature publishing and content industry.
Platinum Award, Gold Award, Silver Award and Honorary Mention Award winners will receive a Certificate of Recognition attested by Milan Illustrations Agency, Usborne Publishing (UK) and Young Authors Publishing (USA).
Platinum Award, Gold Award, Silver Award and Honorary Mention Award winners may be selected to work on one or more paid illustration assignments.
WHEN IS THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE?
Registration for the competition will be open through December 22nd, 2021. Late entries may be approved by Heads of Department.
WHEN IS THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE?
Illustration submissions will be accepted for a period of nine weeks starting December 23rd, 2021 and ending February 24th, 2022.
WHEN ARE THE WINNERS ANNOUNCED?
Winners are announced at the 2022 Countess Marescotti Award prize-giving ceremony tentatively scheduled on March 7st, 2022.
WHO SELECTS THE WINNERS?
Winners are selected by a panel of judges comprising both Makerere University faculty and leaders from the book publishing and illustration industry.
