Angelo Ruta was born in Ragusa, Italy. He trained in Milan, where he completed the Scenography Course at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, the advanced course of Illustration and Comics at the Art & Communication School the advanced course in Film and Television Techniques at the Civic School of Cinema.
Angelo works mainly as an editorial illustrator although over the years he has explored other artistic mediums such as cinema and theater. In the cinema, he produced “Gliocchi Aperto,” which was awarded the Best Italian Short Film at the 14th Turin Film Festival. His movie, ““Gli Occhi Aperti” received the Solinas Award in 2003. In the theatre, Angelo has written scripts for three plays including “Il mio posto è in un campo di grano”, ¨Il poeta volante”, and the children´s play entitled “Millesoli”.
As an illustrator, Angelo has illustrated books for EL, Einaudi Ragazzi, Usborne Publishing, Lion Hudson, Mondadori, BUR, Edizioni San Paolo, Giunti, Stampa Alternativa and any other established clients. He won a Global Illustration Award for his illustrations in the book, I figli, written by Kahlil Gibran.
